THE WORK
We do not heal by leaving the body behind. We heal by learning to inhabit our lives with honesty.
Our stories are more than memories. They live in breath, posture, desire, fear, and the ways we move toward or away from one another. Narrative Somatics brings the meaning of story into conversation with the wisdom of the body—creating space for truth, grief, choice, and repair.
NARRATIVE SOMATICS™
A developing framework shaped by narrative trauma work, somatic awareness, psychodynamic insight, and a progressive Christian imagination.
Tell the truth about the experiences, beliefs, and relationships that have shaped how you learned to survive.
Notice the body’s protection, wisdom, impulse, and longing without treating it as a problem to overcome.
Build the capacity to choose integrity, connection, and courageous presence in the relationships that matter.
Narrative Somatics™ is an embodied, story-centered therapeutic modality that helps people understand their stories, trust their bodies, and live with greater agency and connection.
WHERE STORY AND BODY MEET
“I have been in therapy for decades. I know this stuff, but I still haven’t changed.”
People often arrive after years of talk therapy with a clear understanding of trauma, family of origin, attachment, power, and abuse dynamics. And yet something is still missing: their chest tightens with anxiety, their body freezes when shame arises, sex feels distant, or anger comes out sideways toward the people closest to them.
This gap between what we know in our heads and what we feel in our bodies is where Narrative Somatics™ begins. Story work without body work can become more head knowledge without liberation of the whole self. Body work without story work can create regulation and awareness without depth of meaning. Narrative Somatics reunites the two.
Trauma is both a story and a bodily experience, and it cannot fully be healed if we treat those as separate. What gets stored is not only memory, but sensation, impulse, posture, breath, and protective response. The body is telling a story even when we do not yet have the words to articulate it.
In Narrative Somatics, we do not treat the body as a problem to be fixed. We listen to it as a primary narrator and a guide toward healing. This is slow, consent-centered work led by the client’s body. The goal is not to change the facts of the past, but to change the meaning of the past and restore agency in the present.
Narrative Somatics™ is an integrative therapeutic framework shaped by years of listening to people whose healing required more than insight or body awareness alone. It is especially relevant for people carrying sexual trauma, spiritual or religious abuse, deep shame, body hatred, disconnection from desire or anger, and men who learned to leave their bodies to survive.
